한 사람만이 겨우 지나갈 듯 싶은,
십여 개 남짓한 나무 계단을 오르면

휘황찬란한 네온 사인도, 멋들어진 치장도 없는
소박한 나무 문.
슬그머니 그 문을 여는 그 순간의 설레임이 좋았다.

그 곳에 흐르는 공기에는 마치,
스피커 속을 한 번씩 모조리 거쳐온 것만 같은 내음이 있었다.
노오란 바나나, 벨벳 언더그라운드와
어디를 보고 있는지 종잡을 수 없어보이는 환한 웃음의 지미 헨드릭스와
속이 상할 대로 상해보이는 커트 코베인,
그리고 옐로우 서브 머린이 우리를 지켜보고 있었다.

결코 편안하다고는 할 수 없는 동그란 나무 의자에 몸을 실어
한 번 결이 발라진 바에 앉곤 하던 곳.

예술은 길고 인생은 짧다고 했는데,
그 짧은 인생 속에서도 이렇게나 아쉬움이 많아서야 어쩔까 ㅡ

돌아갈 수 없어서 더욱 가슴아픈 그 곳.
그리고 형.
